First-year students who have succeeded in math and science courses in their first semester and who plan to major in a STEM discipline are encouraged to apply.
How are COSMOS scholars selected?
The COSMOS program is designed around awarding scholarships to rising sophomores (following the conclusion of the freshman year). Faculty associated with the program will select each year’s COSMOS scholars.
To be eligible, a student must:
- Be a US Citizen, national of the US, alien admitted as a refugee, or alien lawfully admitted to the US for permanent residence, as specified by the National Science Foundation
- Have demonstrated financial need
- Be a full-time undergraduate student who plans to major in STEM and pursue a STEM career

- Show documented evidence of academic talent (normally, as identified by professors in science and math courses).
