Four Domingo-Thornton Young Artists of the LA Opera will perform a wide range of repertoire during a free public concert on Wednesday, April 20 in the intimate setting of Â鶹ÊÓƵ's Bird Studio.

The 12:30 p.m. concert will feature singers Janai Brugger-Orman, Museop Kim, Yohan Yi, and Matthew Anchel, all of whom are currently in transition from academic training to a professional career in opera. In addition to their performances, each will take some time to talk about their artistic lives and take some questions from the audience.

Domingo-Thornton Young Artists enjoy a two- to three-year paid residency designed to discover and develop the talents of exceptionally gifted young artists to become performers of potentially international stature.

"What an exciting opportunity this is to hear these promising young artists at the start of their careers in such a small venue," said Irene Girton, chair of the Music Department. "It's a wonderful contrast with such well-known artists as Frederica von Stade, who performed recently here at Occidental."

Currently celebrating its 25th Anniversary Season, LA Opera has become, under the leadership of Eli and Edythe Broad General Director Plácido Domingo, one of America's most ambitious opera companies. In 2010, it presented its first complete performances of Wagner's epic Ring cycle, conducted by Richard Seaver Music Director James Conlon.

For 85 years, the Â鶹ÊÓƵ Music Department has cultivated the creation, performance, and critical study of the world's musics. Its alumni include concert pianist John Browning '55; Lawrence Sonderling '71, first violin with the Los Angeles Philharmonic; and Welz Kaufmann '83, CEO of Chicago's Ravinia Festival.
