GASPERÌý is Associate Professor of History at Â鶹ÊÓƵ in Los Angeles California.ÌýHe has been named a Carnegie Scholar and a Mellon Scholar and is the author/editor of two books:ÌýThe Power of Representation: Publics, Peasants and Islam in EgyptÌý(Stanford University Press, 2009) andÌýIs there a Middle East: The Evolution of a Geo-Political ConceptÌý(Stanford: Stanford University Press,Ìý2011).ÌýHe is currently finishing a manuscript entitledÌýIdentitarianism, State, and Sovereignty: Living Through the Lebanese Civil War (1975-1990).
