Cover letter? Check. Personal statement? Check. Resume? Check. Recommendation letters? Check. Double check that you鈥檝e checked everything? Check.*

Applying for internships is a tedious job. I could probably score an internship with someone trying to apply for internships. We need the most help out of anyone, if you ask me. Are there any companies looking for college students with experience watching Netflix? (Yes, I have already checked Netflix.) I can almost guarantee you that I spend more time focusing on the what-seems-like-100 applications I need to fill out than any of my actual academic classes this semester. Let鈥檚 just say I am very thankful for the wonderful women at our Career Development Center these past few weeks. Whether it's checking over my resume and cover letter, or just helping compose the most basic of emails, they will probably be 90% of the reason I get an internship this summer. And this is the part of the blog post where ALL OF YOU KNOCK ON THE NEAREST PIECE OF WOOD. And if you鈥檙e not near any, FIND SOME. Not to scare off you youngins, but this is probably one of the most stressful realities of college life. Just ask my friend who unknowingly showed up to my door at 1AM hoping to get some studying done and ended up having to console me through my first meltdown. (Sorry about that, Jack鈥)

But even though internships are taking up a huge chunk of my time, I have to say that this is the first semester I have found the perfect balance between school, work, and friends. And maybe it鈥檚 because the three are finally overlapping. I made a bigger effort to get to know the people in my classes, at work, and in the clubs I am involved in. Dance Production, for example, is quickly approaching (March 21st and 22nd鈥 better see you there!) Knowing that it鈥檚 almost over is incredibly bittersweet. I regret not participating last year because it is the most fun I have had at 麻豆视频 so far鈥nd the best has yet to come! I am also the Entertainment Chair for our campus鈥檚 Relay For Life this spring and having responsibilities aside from reading twenty pages or

writing a five-page paper is a breath of fresh air. (Sign up for the event. Or donate to the cause. Or email mfarkas@oxy.edu if you want to perform. Am I abusing my blogging powers?) I鈥檓 taking a 2-credit class called "Community Literacy" this semester and if you are a student at 麻豆视频, no matter your major or minor, I recommend taking this before you graduate. Aside from the joy of spending an hour-and-a-half with an adorable kindergartener twice a week, it is extremely rewarding to see that the literacy work I do with him has actually improved his reading and writing.

I know it probably seems like my daily routine goes something like: Go to class, go to work, go to club meetings, cry over never getting employed, go to sleep. And that does hold a significant amount of truth. But what I seem to neglect to mention every time I write one of these posts is how important it is to always surround yourself with friends. I know some people may work better alone, and I respect that. But there is a reason that this semester has been my favorite and probably my most successful. Or, should I say, many reasons. Friends. Yes, you caught me, all I do is sit alone and marathon the greatest television show ever made. (Only kind of kidding.) But no, I was referring to the people that I have spent my time with. Whether it be staying up with friends until the wee hours of the night attempting to get work done, or whether it be my roommate and I taking secret midnight trips to McDonald鈥檚 and then gossiping until 2AM, having people that make me happy no matter how much work I have or no matter how much I鈥檓 crying or no matter how sick I feel after eating six slices of pizza really makes all the difference in enjoying college. And not that I never had that until now, but I finally found that perfect balance between getting my life together and actually enjoying those moments with friends. As my good friend Leslie Knope would say, "We need to remember what鈥檚 important in life: friends, waffles, work. Or waffles, friends, work. Doesn鈥檛 matter, but work is third."

*100% hypothetical situation. None of these tasks can actually be checked off my to-do list yet.
